Spanish-based striker Kwabena Owusu was the toast of the fans as his hat-trick inspired Ibrahim Tanko’s charges to an emphatic victory.
Owusu started the scoring in the 18th minute for the Black Meteors.
They could have gone two goals up, but Joel Fameyeh’s spot kick was saved by Abdoul-Moubarak Aigba in post for the Young Hawks of Togo.
Before, Thibault Klidje brought the visitors level after connecting home a free-kick.
Ghana came from the half time break with a renewed spirit and they stored their lead through Osman Bukari.
Kwabena Owusu registered two more goals in the 69th minute and the 70th minute to record a hat-trick.
Substitute Yakubu Nassam Ibrahim put the icing on the cake by putting his name on the score sheet.
The result gives Black Meteors a huge advantage ahead of the second leg in Lome on Saturday.
Winner of this tie will face Gabon in the next round of the qualifiers for the next year's competition in Egypt.
