GPL: Vital statistics after matchday 3

Matchday 3 recorded 15 goals from the nine league games played.

Matchday 3 of the 2019/2020 Ghana Premier League witnessed the least number of goals so far-matchday 1 and 2 recorded 25 goals and 17 goals respectively.

There was just an away win on matchday 3 after Berekum Chelsea stormed Kumasi and ensured they left with all the three points against Asante Kotoko.

There were five home wins and three draws.

The number of away goals have reduced as compared to the two previous matchdays: match 1 had three away wins, while four clubs won their matches on the road on matchday 2.

The highest-scoring clubs are Aduana Stars and Medeama with seven goals apiece.

The sides with the least number of goals are Gt. Olympics and Techiman Eleven Wonders who both are yet to hit the back of the net after three games played.

23 yellow cards were flashed on matchday 3, while a player in the person of Empem Dacosta of Asante Kotoko was the only player who was sent off.

Yahaya Mohammed was the only player who bagged a brace on matchday 3. This has taken his goal tally to five, making him the leading top scorer.

Records by individual clubs after matchday 3

Hearts of Oak picked their first league win of the season when they edged Ebusua Dwarfs 2-1.

Two teams namely AshGold and Aduana Stars are the only sides with a 100% start to the season, having won their first three games.

Four clubs have lost all their first 3 league games- Techiman Eleven Wonders, King Faisal, Great Olympics and Ebusua Dwarfs.

Asante Kotoko’s 26 home league run without a defeat came to an end after Berekum Chelsea defeated them 1-0 in Kumasi. They had last lost at home in 2016 on matchday 9 against New Edubiase United.

Aduana Stars defeated Kumasi based King Faisal to extend their unbeaten home league run to 30 games. They had lost at home on matchday 2 against Wa All Stars now Legon Cities FC.

Both Ebusua Dwarfs and Accra Great Olympics have lost their first three games in the Ghanaian topflight league for the first time since its inception in the 1956/1957 season.

King Faisal have their worst start to the Ghana Premier League after losing three straight games from the start of the league for the first time since the 1997/98 season when they suffered defeats to RTU, Hasaacas and Goldfields now AshGold.
