“I don’t ask players for money; none of them is richer than me" – Kwesi Appiah

Former Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah says he is not the type of manager who asks for money or gifts from his players.

“I don’t ask players for money; none of them is richer than me’ – Kwesi Appiah

The 59-year-old said he commands respect and has never begged any player for money in his managerial career.

Coaches in these parts have often been accused of taking favours from players before inviting them for national assignments.

However, Appiah insists he is not that type, adding that none of the Black Stars players is richer than him.

"No Black star player is richer than me so I will never ask a player to buy me watch, shirt etc. I command respect,” he told Kumasi-based Angel FM.

Appiah was reappointed as Black Stars coach in 2017, taking over from Israeli manager Avram Grant.

However, his tenure came to an end on December 31, 2019 after the GFA declined the chance to have it renewed.
