“I’ve not retired from Black Stars; I’ll play if recalled” – Asamoah Gyan

Former captain of the Black Stars Asamoah Gyan says he will readily honour an invitation to the national team if handed a call-up.

“I’ve not retired from Black Stars; I’ll play if recalled – Asamoah Gyan

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Pulse.com.gh, Gyan said he is still available for selection, adding that he has not retired from the national team.

The 34-year-old has played for the Black Stars for almost two decades, having made his international debut in 2003.

However, he has not featured for the national team since featuring at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.

The striker, however, insists he is ready to lead the line for the Black Stars again if he’s invited.

“I’m still available for the Black Stars. You know there were a lot of controversies but we were able to settle it,” he told Pulse.com.gh.

“I haven’t retired from the national team officially. I retired from the national team officially [when] I sent the letter.

“I had to … The president spoke to me and I had to just come back to the national team. For now, I am still available till the day I will call it a day for the international side.”

Gyan joined NorthEast United on a free transfer in September 2019 after leaving Turkish club Kayserispor in June.

He made a flying start at the Indian club, netting two goals in his first three league games, but has been blighted by injury issues.

Meanwhile, Gyan is currently Ghana’s all-time top-scorer with 51 goals.
