The Spanish Tax Authority charged Jose Mourinho for owing nearly €3.3m (£2.9m) and following a court hearing the former Real Madrid coach has been handed a 12-month suspended sentence and a fine of close to €2 million.

Spanish prosecutors said the Portuguese failed to declare revenues from image rights in Spanish tax declarations from 2011 and 2012, when he was coach of Real Madrid, "with the aim of obtaining illicit profits".

Mourinho like several other sports men have been found guilty of tax fraud by the Spanish Tax Authority, with the latest being his countryman Cristiano Ronaldo who was also handed a suspended sentence and a fine.

Jose Mourniho was coach of Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013, during which he won the Spanish La Liga and Copa Del Rey.
