Poor results keeping George Lamptey up at night

I lose sleep because of our poor results - George Lamptey confesses.

George Lamptey says he hardly sleeps these days. It is not for nothing, but the current trend of results for his team

Eleven games, seven defeats, three draws and one victory have the tendency of killing the adrenaline of the football fibre that illuminates hope of a nascent season in any football club across the globe.

And that is the story of Liberty Professional, a club celebrating their two decades of existence this season. The year began with hope and expectations, but the second round contradicts the blistering journey of the first part of the season.

In the first round, the Scientific Soccer Lads recorded seven wins, lost five and drew three and it was a fine way for George Lamptey's men to walk the path of their dream fourth-place finish quest of a nascent season but it has become demoralising way for Liberty to go down.  The Dansoman-based club have lost hunger, and now lack the requisite quality in front of goal.

On this evidence, Liberty have a fighting chance of dropping in the second division if results do not improve in the last four games as they are destined for another frustrating campaign.

The charismatic Lamptey, in his usual self, sat behind his post-match press table, ready to attend to the media, and confessed what the nightmarish results have taken from him -- sleep.

Questions keep flooding his mind why a promising team could soon be dining and wining with relegation as they are only two points above third from the foot of the table side, Sekondi Hasaacas who have an outstanding fixture against CAF Confederation Cup participants, Medeama SC.

"There is pressure on me. The trend of (woeful) results is worrying me and I hardly sleep. It is difficult to sleep. We play so well at times and end up with nothing to show for it. When you play good football, and you dwindle and dwindle, it makes it difficult to sleep. It is too bad for me and the players," he noted after another devastating result against WAFA on Sunday.

Finding the problem is key when solution is required. Though he was not emphatic about the exact problem which has eaten deep into his team's results, he revealed there are internal problems which are not for public consumption and said they are working on finding answers.

"We have internal problems we are working on finding solutions to. The team will have to come together and find solution because we are playing very well (without winning)." He said.

On whether the confidence has dropped due to the trend of results, Mr. Lamptey said the confidence of the team is not hampered but, his interest is to ensure the players do not lose intersest in the game of football.

"The confidence of the team is not down. Sometimes when you look at the way a game is and the way we play we can't lose confidence in ourselves. We lost at AshGold, but we played so well. What I have to is not to make my players lose interest or courage in the game." He stated.

Liberty Professional sit 12th on the league log after 26 matches. Their next outing is on the road to Tema against Inter Allies.
