Thomas Partey captains Ghana against Zimbabwe as Andre Ayew drops to the bench

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey will captain Ghana in their FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe in Harare this afternoon.

Thomas Partey captains Ghana against Zimbabwe as Andre Ayew drops to the bench

This is due to the absence of substantive skipper Andre Ayew, who has been dropped for the game against the Warriors.

Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac has made two changes to the side that defeated the Zimbabwe 3-1 in Cape Coast last Saturday.

Aside from Andre, teenager Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has also dropped to the bench, with Benjamin Tetteh and Baba Iddrisu taking their places.

Meanwhile, Jojo Wallocott maintains his spot between the sticks, while the back four of Daniel Amartey, Baba Rahman, Alexander Djiku and Jonathan Mensah also remains intact.

Partey will partner Baba Iddrisu in a midfield pivot and Jordan Ayew, Kudus Mohammed, Kamaldeen Sulemana and Benjamin Tetteh form the attacking quartet.

The 28-year-old Arsenal midfielder was named first vice captain of the Black Stars during CK Akonnor’s tenure as coach.

Despite replacing the former Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak coach at the helm, Rajevac has decided to stick with the current hierarchy of the team.
