The draw for the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers was held in Cairo on Tuesday, January 21, 2020.

CK Akonnor's men have been handed a tough draw in the third round, but one that many Ghanaians are very optimistic about.

The Black Stars will have to navigate their way through South Africa, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe in Group G.

Speaking after the draw, the Black Stars coach said his side can top the group with hard work and determination.

“I am believing that this is the time for us to do it but it is important for us to put in the hard work. Hard work and determination will guide Ghana to achieve qualification,” CK Akonnor said.

The 10 group winners will then face off in a home and away play-off to determine which five teams will represent Africa at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Black Stars made their debut at he World Cup in 2006, and impressively reached the round of 16 of the tournament.

Ghana again qualified for the 2010 World Cup, this time coming close to reaching the last four after exiting at the quarter-final stage.

However, the four-time African champion failed to go past the group stages in the 2014 World Cup, before missing out entirely in the 2018 edition.

CK Akonnor and his charges will, therefore, be hoping to make a return to the world stage in Qatar in 2022.
