Alexandre Djiku raises funds to help Strasbourg Hospital find COVID-19 vaccine

France-based defender Alexandre Djiku has taken steps to raise funds to support the Strasbourg University Hospital in its bid to find a vaccine for the novel Coronavirus.

The 25-year-old, who plays for Racing Strasbourg in the Ligue 1, has since launched a fund to solicit for donors.

Last Sunday, Djiku took to social media to state that he was taking it upon himself to help doctors and nurses in Strasbourg.

He further launched a fundraiser online, calling on fans of Racing Strasbourg to donate to help the hospital find a vaccine for the virus.

Djiku was born in the French city of Montpellier to a Ghanaian father and a Senegalese mother.

The centre-back started his career with Bastia, before joining Caen in 2017, where he made over 50 appearances.

He then moved to Racing Strasbourg in the summer 2019 and has since been a mainstay in the first team.

Djiku made 33 appearances in Ligue1 this season before the suspension of the French topflight due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The defender is eligible to play for Ghana and has indicated his readiness to represent the Black Stars.
