According to the recent ComScore numbers, nearly twice as many iPhone owners prefer to get direction and then look up addresses on Google Map, compared to Apple’s native Maps app.

But Apple seems to be making moves to improve on those usage numbers. It confirmed earlier today that it acquired high-precision navigation service Coherent Navigation and that the Apple Maps team would be joined by the team from Coherent Navigation.

Apple has not said when it bought Coherent Navigation, nor does it say how it acquired it for, but Coherent Navigation’s CEO, Paul G. Lego’s LinkedIn page says he has been working for Apple for the past five months.
