Ex-Ghana international Samuel Johnson says Asamoah Gyan’s quality means he should be plying his trade with a bigger club in the Turkish topflight, rather than Kayserispor.

Johnson is not new to the Turkish Super Lig, having played for the likes of Fenerbahçe and Gaziantepspor in a career that spanned almost two decades.

The former Ghana midfielder believes Gyan’s move to Kayserispor is “okay”, but opines the Black Stars captain deserves to be playing for an elite side in the Turkish league.

“I wish Asamoah Gyan had joined one of the three big teams in Turkey,” Johnson said in an exclusive interview with Goal.com.

“I preferred him playing with one of them because he will have quality players to provide him with quality passes to score as we know him to.

“But I pray Kayserispor will get somebody to supply him with the quality to score. With quality balls, he is somebody who could get you a goal or two by the end of a game.”

He added: “He [Gyan] is a goal-scorer so let’s see what happens there. But generally, it’s ok for him to play in Turkey.

“What makes me happy also is that he’s playing for the last club I played there [in Turkey].I hope he brings them up and takes them to another level.

“However, I would have preferred him playing for Fenerbahce, Besiktas or Galatasaray.”

Gyan joined Kayserispor on a two year-deal this summer, following stints with Al Ain and Shanghai SIPG in UAE and China respectively.

The 31-year-old made his debut for the club on Monday, but could do very little as they slumped to a 4-1 defeat to Galatasaray.
