The former Black Stars and Bayern Munich defender Samuel Osei Kuffuor has gone critical on Ghanaian players at the moment on the back of them failing to make the three man shortlist for 2017 CAF African player of the year.
Sammy Kuffuor sat on the high table to represent the group of former African players who have given their blood sweat and tear for African Football at the Movenpick Ambassodor Hotel where the nominees’ ceremony was held.
The 41 year old former footballer spoke to the media after the event in Accra.
“Theperformance of theplayersare not uptothatstandard so I am not surprised. Weshouldsit down as a country in order to upgrade ourselves in terms of thelevel of football.
“We should prepare in order to live the glory days of Abedi Pele,Tony Yeaboah and myself Sammy Kufuor”.
Samuel Osei Kufuor won the 2001 BBC African Footballer of the Year .
He was also runner up to El-Hadji Diouf the coveted CAF African footballer Award for that same year.
Mohammed Salah(Liverpool & Egypt), Sadio Mane (Liverpool & Senegal) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Bourssia Dortmund & Gabon) are the three final nominees for the coveted award.
The award ceremony will be held on Thurday, 4th January,2018 in Accra.
