Bible Society empathizes with flood, fire victims
The Bible Society of Ghana (BSG) has expressed shock over the flood and inferno tragedy that hit Ghana on Wednesday, June 3, 2015.
Ghana was submerged in flood following torrential and consistent rainfall especially in the capital city, Accra. Over 200 people were reported dead while properties running into millions of cedis destroyed by the torrential rains that fell for over three hours.
Some people who had gathered in front of a Pharmacy Shop at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle near the Goil Filling Station adjacent to the GBC Towers to seek for refuge from the heavy downpour lost their lives following a fire outbreak at the Goil filling station.
A statement signed by the General Secretary of BSG, Rev. Erasmus Odonkor asked all to renew their faith in God.
Below is the statement:
The Bible Society of Ghana is shocked and devastated by the floods and the fire incidents that have claimed over 200 lives in Accra.
Our hearts go out to the victims whose lives have been lost and the bereaved families; the victims who have been rendered homeless; and the businesses that have experienced damages and losses.
It is our prayer that you will find the strength, comfort and hope for new beginnings in the Lord.
This is a trying moment for Ghana but it is also a time to renew our faith and look up to Jesus, our strength and refuge.
God is our refuge and strength, an-ever present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give wayand the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging“Be still, and know that I am God;I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth”.The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
