It's been 37 years since Elliott helped E.T. go home, and now the Extra-Terrestrial is back, via a Comcast commercial that aired on NBC during the network's coverage of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The short film, entitled "A Holiday Reunion," functions as a kind of short, sweet sequel to the classic <a href="https://www.menshealth.com/entertain...

At first, E.T. mistakes a little boy for his old pal, before discovering that Elliott is actually the kid's dad. "A lot's changed since you were here," Elliott tells him.

For E.T. fans, the short covers familiar ground, from the toy trains coming to life to the alien and a kid screaming at each other, to the flying bike ride, so if kids enjoyed this soft reboot, their parents will be delighted at the chance to show them the original.

Spielberg did actually write a treatment for an E.T. sequel following the movie's theatrical release in 1982. E.T. II: Nocturnal Fears would have seen Elliott and his friends being captured by evil, flesh-eating aliens, forcing E.T. to return to Earth to save them.

That movie would have included scenes of cattle mutilation and children being brutally interrogated by an albino-like mutation of the beloved Extra-Terrestrial, so it's probably for best that it never got made, and we can just enjoy these four minutes of heartwarming nostalgia instead.
