The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has issued a stern caution directed at the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to be vigilant in order to avoid a leakage of questions ahead of the 2017 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

However NUGS, in a statement, said: “We take cognisance of previous happenings and the bizarre nature of the pressure that is exerted on innocent candidates of having to write examinations all over again once a paper is cancelled on the premise of examination leakage."“We believe that it is no fault of a student that such incidents occur, as such should not be punished for it.”

Meanwhile the union has cautioned the regulators of the examination to employ efficient tools to ensure the question papers do not leak ahead of time.

“We advise that the examination body, together with security services, should employ better mechanisms to safeguard their question papers so as to prevent the unfortunate instances of exam malpractice or foreknowledge as may be defined by the examiners.”The union wished WASSCE candidates luck and admonished them to eschew all forms of malpractice during the exam.
