Newcastle Jets handed Mark Jones a classy first win in charge by beating A-League heavyweights Brisbane Roar 4-0 on Sunday.

The Jets took an early lead through Jack Hingert's own-goal before pressing home their advantage after the interval.

Brisbane managed more shots than their hosts, but the Jets' accuracy won out, with Nigel Boogaard, Steven Ugarkovic and Devante Clut finding the net in a second-half blitz.

Brisbane are only kept off the foot of the embryonic A-League table by the competition's sole pointless team after two rounds, Wellington Phoenix, who went down 2-0 to Perth Glory.

Diego Castro's penalty had the home side on their way in the 'Distance Derby', but Andy Keogh failed miserably from the spot 12 minutes later to keep Wellington in the hunt.

However, Nebojsa Marinkovic struck from range to seal the points for Perth.
