Streaming finally generates more music than CDs

 
 
Digital downloads took a hit in 2014 with a decrease. As streaming becomes more popular, record labels and online music stores are beginning to invest heavily in that market.

According to a report released by the Recording Industry Association of America on Wednesday, march 20, 2015, streaming services made up $1.87 billion in revenue for the music industry.

On the other hand, sales of CDs made raked in $1.85 billion in revenue. Streaming therefore made up 27% of the music industry's revenue last year. In 2013 it made up 21%.

Apple acquired Beats by Dr. Dre last year partly because of its streaming service called Beats Music. Apple is expected to launch its own streaming service this year based on Beats Music technology in June.
