The gadget, identified as an Infinix Hot S mobile phone, is believed to be worth GHc 500. Clifford, who is a footballer, pleaded guilty for causing unlawful damage. However, Stephen who aided him in committing the alleged offense is currently at large.

Charges for conspiracy and stealing were, however, not accepted by Clifford who explained that a misunderstanding between him and the complainant led to a struggle, resulting in the said phone falling.

Clifford, therefore, pleaded not guilty, adding that during the struggle his colleague’s hand hit the complainant, which led to the phone falling and damaging its screen.

Presenting the facts to the court, Superintendent Kweku Bempah said the complainant was a Taxi Driver, who was stopped by Clifford and Stephen to hire his services in the wee hours of 30th December 2016.The report states that during negotiations, Clifford took the complainant’s phone, an Infinix hot S mobile, while Stephen distracted him.

The complainant upon realizing his phone had been taken confronted the pair, but they beat him up. He tried to take his phone from them but they overpowered him and run away.

According to Superintendent Bempah, the complainant then alerted his friends about the issue, which led to a search for the two.

Clifford was later arrested after he was spotted in Osu with the said Infinix phone in his possession.

The phone, however, had a cracked screen upon its retrieval. Clifford was subsequently handed over to the police.The case was adjourned to January 25, with Clifford still in police custody. The police are still on the look out for his accomplice Stephen.
