San Jose Earthquakes and New York City played out a 0-0 draw in Friday's MLS action.

The stalemate at the Avaya Stadium means San Jose have now drawn their past three league games.

NYC, meanwhile, see their lead atop the Eastern Conference standings extended to four points over Toronto FC.

Hosts San Jose were under pressure early but produced the first clear-cut opportunity of the half.

However, NYC goalkeeper Josh Saunders produced a great save off Alberto Quintero in the 14th minute.

Saunders was called into action several times shortly after, before his opposite number David Bingham was forced into a save by Frank Lampard.

San Jose almost took the lead early in the second half when Quintero played a delightful cross into Chris Wondolowski, but the captain's header flied past the wrong side of the post.

Wondolowski had another great opportunity in the 70th minute, but this time his shot came off the post, to the relief of Patrick Vieira and Co.

In a game with few highlights, neither side was able to find the back of the net in the closing stages, with City held for the first time since the end of May.
