He then went to the Supreme Court to challenge the election results, saying there were irregularities. The court ruled in his favour and declare the results null and void.

However, when a new date was fixed for the election rerun, Odinga withdrew from the polls claiming the very irregularities that led to his defeat in the first poll had not been rectified.

The country’s electoral body went ahead with the elections anyway without his participation.

In the boycotted rerun, the incumbent, Uhuru Kenyatta polled a total of 98.26% and was declared the winner and was subsequently sworn in as the president.

However, Raila Odinga insists that he must to be sworn in as the president of the nation which some analysts think is just a ploy to share power with the ruling government.

After several postponements, the widely condemned swearing in is expected to take place today in Nairobi this morning as Raila Odinga says he is prepared to die if his swearing in will cost him his life.

Security forces of the country have vowed to ensure the event does not happen, and the Uhuru Kenyatta led government has also threatened to withdraw the license of any media firm that will give coverage to the swearing in.

All eyes are on Kenya to see how events will unfold.
