These Guys Set a World Record for the Largest Lightspeed Saber Battle
But when it comes to actually fighting with a lightsaber, the closest you can (safely) get is probably whatre called, presumably for competitions. Guinness World Records recently inside the world of lightsaber duels, as contestants geared up for a world-record attempt at the largest competition.
The attempt was part of , a wild melange of an event that includes combat juggling, cornhole, dodgeball, and something called dodge juggling. Lightspeed saber battles, as combatants explain, is something like fencing, with its own unique scoring system.
Because the sabers are light, its also kind of like knife-fighting; their length also adds aspects of stick- and sword-fighting, and many players bring their own spin on martial arts to the table.
The battles are fast-paced, with the winner being the first to score three points. All of the duelers seem excited to be there, competitive but ultimately friendly with one anothertheres more camaraderie than ruthless cutthroatery. Its not much of a spoiler to say that with 60 people competing, they did in fact set the world record for, officially, the largest winner-stays-on lightspeed saber competition. The real fun is seeing the joy and focus that they bring to their niche (but extremely relatable) hobby.
