This Video Reimagines The Mandalorian as an '80s Sitcom and It's Hypnotic
Things are off to a rousing start for The Mandalorian. Not only has it recently become the most in-demand TV show in the world according to Parrot Analytics, but its meme game is just on absolute fire. Powered mostly by Baby Yoda , the entertainment value of The Mandalorian has gone far beyond the reach of just the show's narrative. Now, one person has taken the meme-dom to the next level, cutting up an entire '80s sitcom-style intro for the show, and it really strangely works.
Gareth Wood, a British animator, took the time to cut together a number of Mandalorian clips into a sequence that not only features an appropriately corny theme song (it's actually the song from the forgotten sitcom My Two Dads ), but also proper name overlays, and picked just the right names and characters to feature. Carl Weathers has been a nice character in the show, but might be an even more natural fit in this sitcom opening sequence. The whole thing feels very Too Many Cooks , and that is obviously a fantastic thing.
The Mandalorian has only aired 4 of the 8 episodes planned in its first season, so we're probably still in the infancy of these memes; plenty more are certainly on the way. And with the sort of Big Daddy or Angels in the Outfield reluctant parent type deal the show has been building between Mando and Baby Yoda, there are certainly quite a lot of cinematic references to be made in the future (in fact, the Men's Health slack was just brainstorming movie options for the above reference for basically ten straight minutes). Long story short, there are meme options.
