Efya, Jon Benjamin, Trigmatic congratulate Wiyaala for winning “Artiste of the Year” at 2019 GACA
Afro-pop singer and songwriter Efya, singer and rapper Trigmatic and former British Commissioner to Ghana Jon Benjamin have congratulated singer Wiyaala for winning the topmost award at the maiden edition of Ghana Arts and Culture Awards.
She beat off stiff competition from Aka Blay, Sherifa Gunu, King Ayisoba and Dela Botri to grab the coveted accolade.
Fellow songstress Efya reacted by saying: “Congratulations @Wiyaala We Love You.”
Trigmatic did the same: “Congrats sis. Well deserved.”
Jon Benjamin, on the other hand, described Wiyaala as a ‘huge international star’ but isn’t ‘appreciated at home [Ghana]’.
“Quite right too - @Wiyaala is a huge international star for Ghana, which is arguably something not fully realised and appreciated at home,” he tweeted.
The award was presented by the acting President of the Musicians Union of Ghana, Bessa Simons.
Ghana Arts and Culture Awards which was launched in September 2019 seeks to honour individuals and brands who have made significant contributions to the arts and culture industry in Ghana.
