Just a few weeks after award winning Hiplife artiste, Edem, released his "Nyedzilo" song, which features Reekado Banks of Mavin Records, the Koene artiste has been accussed of allegedly stealing the song. The “accuser”, Kosi Bone, an upcoming hiplife artiste, has challenged Edem to prove the song is his “intellectual property”, Graphic.com.gh reports. In an interview with Showbiz last week, the young chap, who has in the past released songs such as Menya and Wait recounted his encounter with Edem in 2011 and the meeting, he said, has been his “downfall” after four years.“As a young artiste, I admired some of our older artistes like Edem and always looked up to him. We met many times at Spintex road and that was how we built a relationship over the years. So when I met him at the Ho festival in 2011, I thought it was a good opportunity to get his views on my latest song.“I played the song which featured Yaw Siki for him and later performed it on stage as well. He even encouraged me to take my career seriously and gave me some tips on how to make inroads in the industry. But to my amazement, I heard a replica of my song on radio some few weeks ago,” Kosi Bone, narrated his story.According to Kosi Bone, real name, Mills Edem, his only “crime” at the time was to give a copy of the song to one Deladem Richard, who was then Edem’s road manager. “I’m really surprised Edem and his team had to stab me in the back this way”.He said though he had initial thoughts of not pursuing the case; he changed his mind when he noticed the similarities of the song and wanted the world to know his story.“I could have ignored this, but the truth is that the song is my intellectual property. I have been performing this song for the past years in the Volta Region and its environs. The song has the same lyrics, flow and rhythm. That can’t be a co-incidence,” he pointed out.He told Showbiz that he is not bothered about Edem’s denial of the existence of the song on the various media platforms but want the public to be the judges since both songs are online for review.“The links are still on Google to prove when I uploaded the song and when Edem did his. At least, that’s enough evidence to support my assertion,” the graduate of Ho Polytechnic added.Interestingly, ODB, a sound engineer and producer who worked on Kosi Bone’s song had his own story. “I recorded and produced the song and must admit that Edem’s song is similar in chorus, but the beat and tempo are very different”.When Showbiz contacted the Koene artiste for his side of the story, he declined to comment and said the issue would be addressed by his management.
