Christiana Awuni warns Chairman Wontumi, threatens to drag him to court

Popular Kumawood actress, Christiana Awuni, strongly criticized the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, for his recent remarks regarding Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer.

Chairman Wontumi allegedly made disparaging comments about Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, insinuating that the former UCC Vice Chancellor was clandestinely married to John Mahama and falsely claiming she hailed from the Northern Region instead of the Central Region.

During a live interview on Accra FM on March 27, Awuni accused Chairman Wontumi of displaying tribalism and a lack of respect for accomplished individuals.

"I can't fathom whether it's his wealth or something else, but his speech lacks decorum. He shows no regard; he speaks rashly," she expressed with frustration.

"This isn't the first instance where he has attacked her like this. If not for political reasons, would he have had the audacity to utter such statements to her face?" she questioned.

Awuni further issued a stern warning to Chairman Wontumi, threatening legal action if he continues to target the NDC running mate.

"This marks the second time he has verbally assaulted Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, yet she has remained composed. As for me, I'm serving him notice. Should he make any further derogatory remarks about her, the entire nation will witness our clash! I will pursue legal action, and he can expend all his wealth on lawyers," she vowed.

Awuni's stance aligns with numerous individuals and civil society organizations demanding an unconditional apology from Chairman Wontumi, emphasizing the need for respectful discourse in political dialogue.
