Put away all of the cleaners and elbow grease. Use these kitchen ingredients for best results.

Lemon

Lemon can deodorize and clean your microwave within minutes. Cut a lemon in half, and place both halves cut-side down on a microwaveable plate. Add a tablespoon of water. Microwave for three to five minutes and let it sit for five minutes before you remove it.

Then just wipe down the inside with clean paper towels. As a bonus, use the lemon to clean your kitchen sinks and floor for long-lasting freshness.

Vinegar

Vinegar is an inexpensive solution that can be used to clean your microwave. It is an effective sanitizer that removes odors rather than covering them up.

Fill a microwave-safe glass or bowl halfway with water. Add one tablespoon of white vinegar. Microwave on high for five minutes. This process will steam up the walls of the microwave and loosen the dried-on gunk.

Carefully remove the glass container and wipe down the inside of the microwave with a clean rag or paper towel. Take out the turntable and wash it as you would a dish. You can even run it through the dishwasher.

Baking soda

Baking soda can do a lot more than just sit in the back of the fridge. It is a versatile kitchen ingredient that can be used to clean every corner of your house.

Put two tablespoons of baking soda in a microwave safe bowl, add a cup of water and put in the microwave for three minutes.

The baking soda will kill the funky smells and the water will start to steam clean the spots and stains. Give it a good wipe down afterward and your microwave is good as new.
