During an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Rodriguez was confronted with a newly unearthed interview from 1998, in which his younger self was asked who his dream date would be. His answer: "Jennifer Lopez. Maybe you can help me find a date with her."
In 1998, Lopez was a lot of people's dream woman: she had just appeared in the critically acclaimed romantic thriller Out of Sight opposite George Clooney, and her star was on the rise rise (her debut album On the 6 came out a year later).
After viewing the footage, Rodriguez exlaimed: "Well that means that dreams actually do come true in America... Jimmy, it took me 20 years."
The conversation then turned to wedding planning, where Rodriguez's approach is simple. "You just let Jennifer plan everything, and then you say: 'Alright.'" And while he won't be joining his professional dancer bride in a choreographed first dance as a married couple, he could still end up cutting up the dance floor at the reception: "When I have a few cocktails, I'm not awful... a little vodka, a little soda, I'm OK."
He also joked that they could have the biggest wedding of all time by getting married during J-Lo's half-time show at next year's Super Bowl. "I could probably save some money," he said. "NFL, Fox, they can pay for it!"
