Govt to clamp down on 'recalcitrant' Ministries for non-payment of bills

Government has indicated it will soon clamp down on Ministries who default payment of their utility bills.

President Mahama who made this known during his address to the media on Tuesday said "One of the most recalcitrant culprits for non-payments is government institutions. Government institutions have come to the belief that because they are with government you can't cut them off. Meanwhile, in the budget that are approved for government institutions, electricity and utility bills are provided for."

The president added that "we need to repackage all these things so that we have sustainable power."

President Mahama further indicated that the country is close to solving the load shedding problem which is having a toll on businesses and individuals.

"What I intend to do is to fix the problem. One of the major sectors that takes a lot of my time and attention is the Power Sector. We are close as we are to solving the problem of dumsor.

"We still have a gap. But I believe that in the next short while, we will be able to overcome the problem of loadshedding," he added.
