Over 2000 security officers deployed for District Assembly elections

The personnel include men from the prisons, immigration and customs.

 

A combined team of security officers numbering more than 2,000, have been deployed across the country to augment security for the September 1 District Assembly elections.

A statement issued and signed by the Director-General of Public affairs DCOP Rev. David Nenyi Ampah- Bennin read, “The deployment of combined team of personnel from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prison Service, Ghana National Fire Service and Ghana Immigration Service to various polling stations and locations to maintain law and order for the protection of conduction of the election, will start on Sunday, August 31, 2015”.

The 2,085 personnel have been tasked to exhibit professionalism and uphold peace throughout the exercise.

The Customs officers have been deployed to the Eastern region while the Immigration officers have been deployed to the Volta region.

Officials have said that there are enough personnel in the Western, Upper East and West regions hence there will be no need for deployment.

449 prisons officers have been deployed to the Ashanti region with 200 moved to the Central region.

Batches of the Police, made up of the CID/Service Workshop/Central Band and Training Schools have also been sent to the Northern and Brong Ahafo regions.

The Fire Service will be in Accra.

Ghanaians in the various districts, municipal and metropolitan assemblies are expected to go to the polls on Tuesday to select their representatives at the assembly level.

The police service has entreated members of the public to observe the electoral laws, and respect the laid down procedures for the electoral process.
