The Ghana Police Service has confirmed that seven prisoners have escaped from a police cell in Denu in the Volta Region.

The jail break according to sources occurred around 1am this morning and over 6 hours after the escape not one of them has been re-arrested.
Initial reports have it that the convicts have escaped into neighboring Togo. Confirming the escape to TV3 news, Volta regional Police Commander, DCOP Yentumi Gyinae said "our main focus now is that we have to look for them and re-arrest them.
"There were 2 police officers on duty when they escaped and we are yet to question them to give us details of what happened."
He also added that they have contacted their counterparts in Togo to be on the lookout for the escapees.
The names of the jail breakers are not yet known.
