This amount is part of the GH¢20 million earmarked to assist the residents of nine districts across the Volta and other regions that have been severely impacted by the catastrophe.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Monday, October 23, Ken Arthur, Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Services at the VRA, highlighted the authority's dedication to alleviating the suffering of those affected. He assured the public that no one would be left unattended in this critical mission.

The VRA, along with a relief team, has been actively providing food items, including rice, maize, beans, gari, sugar, mackerel, cooking oil, palm oil, tomato paste, groundnuts, biscuits, fruit juice, powdered milk, and drinking water to the affected communities. Additionally, non-food relief items such as mosquito repellent creams, mosquito nets, blankets, mattresses, solar-powered lanterns with phone charging features, and sanitary items have been distributed.

Furthermore, the VRA has contracted Zoomlion to offer sanitary services to the impacted areas, including mobile toilets and sanitation services at safe-havens. To enhance accessibility, an access road from Mepe to the St. Kizito centre has been established, replacing the need for boat transportation.

In addition to these efforts, the VRA has cleared weeds from the Sogakope bridge to ensure the smooth flow of the river into the ocean, thereby reducing the risk of further flooding.

Ken Arthur reassured the public that the VRA, in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other relevant agencies, remains committed to the well-being of the affected communities. He emphasized that no one would be left behind in this emergency situation.

The VRA expressed its sympathy for all those affected by the flood and underscored its unwavering commitment to working closely with NADMO and other relevant agencies to provide relief and assistance to the victims. The relief efforts have gone a long way in providing much-needed aid and support to the flood victims, easing their pain and discomfort during these challenging times.
