Nii Armah Ashitey faces possible dismissal in NDC

Anthony Nukpenu has advised members of the NDC to channel all grievances through the party structure

Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle Nii Armah Ashitey could face a possible dismissal from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following a fresh suit filed at an Accra High Court against the Parliamentary Candidate for the area and the Electoral Commission, Dr Zanetor Rawlings, challenging her eligibility to contest the 2016 general elections.

The Greater Accra Regional Organizer of the party, Anthony Nukpenu revealed that it will consider dismissing members who take the party to court without exhausting the party’s structure.

He said "I believe that the time has come for the party to take stringent measures and decisions to dismiss people from this party, we cannot continue going this way."

"You have not exhausted the grievance channel of the party and you just go and file this kind of suit just to drag people up and down."

Nii Armah Ashitey and Nii John Coleman are challenging the legitimacy of Dr Zanetor Rawlings to contest for a parliamentary seat under the 1992 constitution.

According to them, "A declaration that the Dr Zanetor Rawlings election as a parliamentary Candidate elect for the Klottey-Korley Constituency is null and void and is of no effect as same violates the constitution of the NDC and the rules governing the conduct of the 216 parliamentary primaries."

But Mr Nukpenu speaking to Citi FM said "I will just urge Zanetor Rawlings to set her mind of this thing and her legal team should take up the issues, the party’s legal team will also join to quash this out of court. She should just stay focused, campaign and go forward but I think the time has come for the party to start dismissing people from this party and let us focus and win the 2016 election."
