Ghana’s political landscape since the transition to constitutional democracy has not only had its share of good policies by various political parties but also a blend of strong-minded and beautiful women. These women are a blend of beauty and brain and are articulate enough to discuss issues and offer alternatives relating to challenges in the body politic.

Pulse.com.gh has compiled a list of the gorgeous women who are calling the shots in Ghana’s political landscape.

Samira Bawumia

The 37-year-old beautiful Samira Ramadan Bawumia is a beauty contestant-turned-politician, and the only daughter of Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan, the former PNC National Chairman. Being the wife of the New Patriotic Party’s running mate, Mahamadu Bawumia, her role has been to spread the goodwill message of the party to the youth and particularly women.

Samira who was also adjudged the Best Student in Master of Business Administration (MBA) for Project Management at the Ghana Institute of Public Administration (GIMPA) in 2012 said she has always enjoyed learning new things. Being a mother of four, Mrs Bawumia said the art of public speaking comes to her naturally, particularly when she identifies with the cause.

Adjoa Safo

She is the beautiful daughter of Ghanaian industrialist and pastor Apostle Kwadwo Safo. Born on December 28, 1981, the 35-year old politician is also a practicing lawyer and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) member of parliament  for the Dome Kwabenya Constituency of the Greater Accra Region. She has two kids with the controversial lawmaker, Kennedy Agyapong.

Samia Nkrumah

There is no denying the fact that the female born of former president Dr Kwame Nkrumah has a natural beauty. The 56-year old was formerly the chairperson of the Convention People's Party (CPP). She won the Jomoro constituency seat in the 2008 parliamentary election at her first attempt making her Ghana's first independent parliamentary candidate. On 9 December 2012, Samia Nkrumah lost her Jomoro parliamentary seat to the NDC contestant, Wing Commander Francis Anaman, a retired officer of the Ghana Airforce. In January 2016, she contested alongside three other candidates to be the flag bearer and presidential candidate for the 2016 National Elections. She lost out, coming second to Ivor Greenstreet.

Zanetor Rawlings

The NDC parliamentary candidate for the Klottey Korle is the eldest daughter of the first President under the 4th Republic of Ghana Jerry Rawlings (1993–2001) and former first lady Nana Konadu Agyeman.

'Lagata', as she is popularly known by her constituents, is a mother of two with different men. One with former Kotoko boss, Herbert Mensah and another with a Scottish. Many argue that she launched her political career with the June Fire Disaster in Accra, seeking funds and relief for the victims.

Joyce Bawa-Mogtari

Currently the communications director of the NDC 2016 campaign, the beautiful woman has been the Head of the Legal Unit of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority since 2007. She graduated from the Holborn College, University of London, United Kingdom in 1997 with a Bachelor of Laws, (LL.B) degree and was called to the Ghana Bar in the year 2000. She has been the Deputy Transport Minister since the John Mahama-led administration. Being an experienced mediator, the affable Bawa-Mogtari’s hope is to ensure that the NDC is retained in power.

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful

The 52-year old is a female Ghanaian parliamentarian representing Ablekuma West constituency. She is a private legal practitioner, Human Rights Advocate, gender activist, among other things.

She is also a member of the communication team of the NPP. Being a gender advocate, Mrs Ekuful has over the years championed the rights of young women across the country. She is a barrister or solicitor by profession.

Brigitte Dzogbenuku

Miss Ghana 1991 Brigitte Dzogbenuku is currently the running mate of Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom of the Progressive People’s Party. Being an entrepreneur, the beautiful woman runs her own public relations and events management company known as Protocol Ventures.

She also owns another private company that does business with the Barclays clubhouse in Accra. This fun-loving mother of one is also the founder and Executive Director of a non-governmental organisation; Mentoring Women Ghana (MWG), where she supports the personal growth of young women through mentoring. Her dream is to see women in key leadership roles in Ghana.

Benita Sena Okity-Duah

The 40-year-old Miss Ghana 1997 winner is currently the Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku constituency in the Greater Accra Region.

After studying fashion at the London School of fashion for four years, She returned to Ghana in 2003 and has since carved a niche for herself in the Ghanaian fashion industry.

Mrs Okity-Duah served as a Deputy Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection of the Republic of Ghana from April, 2013 to June 2014. She is the current Deputy Minister of Fishery and Aquaculture of the Republic of Ghana and also a member of the Appointments Committee, Education Youth, Sports and Culture.

Obuobia Darko-Opoku

Born August 22, 1977, Obuobia is a Ghanaian politician and journalist who is currently the NDC Parliamentary Aspirant for the 2016 Weija-Gbawe constituency seat in Ghana and Deputy Executive Secretary of the Ghana Free Zones Board.

Being the founder of the Obuobia Foundation, Obuobia still continues her philanthropic work by providing support to her constituency through her Foundation. Obuobia Darko-Opoku lost her bid when she contested the Weija-Gbawe Constituency seat in the 2012 elections. She is, however, determined to lead the Weija-Gbawe constituents this time.

Shirley Ayorkor Botchway

The 53-year-old female politician is the current NPP Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutuom constituency in the Greater Accra region. Being a journalist and an advertiser, her communication skills has come to play in the NPP campaign activities ahead of the elections.

Currently married with two children, Mrs Ayorkor Botchway serves under the following Committees in parliament: Selection, Gender and Children, Members Holding Offices of Profit, and Communications.
