In a referendum Thursday, 98.64 per cent voted in favour of the creation of the Oti region out of the Volta region.

With a voter population of 266,545, a total of 323,708 turned out to cast their ballot, representing 88.31 of voter turnout.

The YES votes were 319,296 while the NO votes were 2,878 NO.

There are some reports that the police in the Volta Region denied some journalists access to the coalition room in Jasikan, raising fear the results may have been tempered with.
