Black Stars captain rubbishes Chelsea transfer report

Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has rubbished reports of Shanghai SIPG looking to sell him and also denied a transfer move to Chelsea.

There were viral international media reports last week stressing that the former Sunderland forward wass on the verge of making a move to Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

“Upon hearing the news I started laughing because before any transfer the player in question should be aware of it but this case is different.

“Nobody has contacted me so what I can say is the story in untrue,” Gyan told Hot FM

Gyan since moving to Shanghai SIPG in 2015 from Al Ain has been hampered with various degree of injuries.

Reports emanating from the media indicate that Shanghai SIPG are planning to offload him. The 30-year-old Black Stars forward has however denied those reports saying:

“There is nothing like that because the club management met me and they told me they wanted me to recover fully before starting to play games.”

The Black Stars captain sat out of Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game against Mauritius on Sunday. Ghana won by two goals to nil to book a place in the 2017 AFCON tournament in Gabon with stand-in captain Andre Ayew and Christian Atsu scoring the goals.
