Sports Minister charges Ghana players to beat Mozambique

"I need you to win the home and away legs against Mozambique. As a Ministry, we will do what we can to make sure you achieve that as a country" - Sports Minister

Ghana will host the first of twin AFCON 2017 qualifier at the Accra sports stadium on Thursday.

Fourteen of the players invited by head coach Avram Grant turned up for training on Monday ahead of the game and the sports minister was around to welcome them.

The former GBC sports broadcaster told the players to guard their reputation as the best country on the continent, and go all out for a win on Thursday.

“All I want to say is that your efforts in the past are appreciated by Ghanaians but there is a lot more ahead of us," Hon. Nii Lantey Vanderpuije said.

“You have a reputation to guard as the foremost nation when it comes to football in Africa.

“What is important for me is to see you win against Mozambique on Thursday. It is the first Black Stars match I will be witnessing as the Sports Minister,” he added.

“Assistant coach Maxwell Konadu and team manager Sabahn Quaye will tell you that I always look for victory when it comes to football.”

“That is what I ask of you. I need you to win the home and away legs against Mozambique. As a Ministry, we will do what we can to make sure you achieve that as a country.”
