The amount represents a 50% slash from the $10,000 that the players used to receive.

The issue of player bonuses has been a trending topic since 2014, with successive sports ministers struggling to nail down a fixed amount.

However, it appears the current government has managed to deal with the issues by getting the Black Stars players to accept a reduction.

“The government will pay an amount of $5000 to the Black Stars for all the AFCON qualifying matches, and World Cup qualifying matches excluding that of World Cup tournament matches since that will be announce later,” Deputy Sports minister, Hadzide said while addressing the press.“Notwithstanding, Government will later announce a special comprehensive package which will include insurance of the players, Welfare, Per-diem and Allowances.”

The news comes after several discussions between government and the Black Stars players. Reports from certain quarters suggest that the players agreed to the reduction in order to show their commitment.
