The defender is of Ghanaian descent, having been born in Berlin to a German mother and a Ghanaian father.
Jerome is also the half-brother of Ghana international Kevin-Prince Boateng, who used to play for Germany at youth level before switching nationality.
In an Instagram post, the Bayern Munich centre-back disclosed that he cannot wait to make his first trip to Ghana in the coming days.
“Special trip ahead... can‘t wait to visit Ghana for the very first time,” Jerome wrote as caption to a photo in which he was in sun glasses.
In a previous interview, Jerome revealed that he has a tattoo of the African and Ghana maps on his body.
“I have been to Africa but I didn’t go to Ghana," he said in an interview with DW.
He added: “The tattoo started when I was 16-year-old," Jerome said. "I was with my two older brothers and they said 'today we are all going to do the same tattoo but don’t tell your mother'.
"So we all went and had our bodies tattooed. "It was the continent of Africa with Ghana inside."
Jerome was part of the Germany side that won the World Cup in 2014, and he also boasts a UEFA Champions League medal with Bayern.
