Kotoko fans are the reason for the team’s struggle in Kumasi lately- Psychologist

Dr. Patrick Ofori has blamed Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s inconsistent performance at home on their teeming fans.

According to the renowned psychologist who worked with the team years back, the players of the Porcupine Warriors excel in away games recently because they play under no pressure and for that matter are able to express themselves very well when they play away from home.

Asante Kotoko secured an away draw against Kariobangi Sharks in Ethiopia in the CAF Confederation C, but struggled before they knocked their opponent out at home in a game which was dominated by the visitors.

The Kumasi giants last weekend earned a 3-2 emphatic victory against Coton Sport in Cameroon and ahead of the second leg Dr. Patrick has warned the club, because the home advantage is becoming a disadvantage lately because they play under intense pressure.

"The main reason Kotoko performs better away than home is the home disadvantage," Dr Ofori told Oyerepa FM.

"I call it home disadvantage because the pressure is unnecessary, the supporters should allow the players and coach to settle in, and the expectations are too much."

"They shouldn't allow any individual who has an agenda against an individual in the Kotoko team or the leaders to bring the team down."

"If this is allowed it will frustrate the players and the Cameroonians are exactly coming to play like all other clubs that have given us tough times at Baba Yara."

"I am sure they have been told to come and defend in the first 30 minutes, take every loose ball and the pressure will turn on Kotoko and the Kotoko supporters will turn against them."

"They are supposed to support throughout not to turn against their own team."

"They should come to the stadium to support when the going gets tough."

The Baba Yara Sports Stadium will host the reverse fixture of the Kotoko-Coton Sports clash on Sunday, January 20.
