And on Friday he was in Portugal's green change kit in Riga, where his brace either side of half-time helped his side to a 3-0 victory over Latvia as the European champions consolidated their place in second in World Cup qualifying Group B.
Ronaldo's goals did much more than that too, as they elevated him above a modern-day great in the list of all-time European goalscorers at international level.

Wayne Rooney sits 12th on that list by the way, while Ronaldo is eighth when it comes to all-time international goalscoring across the entire world, with Iran legend Ali Daei top of that particular list on a remarkable 109 goals from 149 internationals.
Ronaldo might not ever surpass him, but the European record looks within his grasp over the next year or so. Or maybe even earlier than that.
This is Cristiano Ronaldo after all, so frankly anything is possible.
