Kotoko win historic double

Exactly two years today, Seidu Bancey’s extra time goal landed the Porcupine Warriors a double of league and FA Cup.

Kotoko in their rich history had failed to win the league and FA Cup in the same football season, despite winning the league title on 22 occasions prior to the season they beat Inter Allies in the 2014 cup final.

Captain, Seidu Bancey scored the winner in extra time after the match ended 1-1 in regulation time.

Richard Mpong capitalised on a defensive blunder from the Inter Allies defence to break the deadlock in the 7th minute.

However, after several failed attempts, Senegalese import, Talla Ndiaye fetched the equalizer in the 60th minute.

The two sides later came close, but they ended up in a deadlock situation after regulation time.

During the extra time, it was clear Kotoko had a slight advantage since their players showed enough tenacity and stamina. Perhaps their level of top-flight experience did the trick since their opponents are just a year old in the elite division.

The hero of the day, Seidu Bancey later popped up to snatch the winner via a simple tap-in after Inter Allies goalkeeper, Osei Kwame failed to firmly grab Jordan Opoku’s shot.

Kotoko finished the season with a double after winning this season’s First Capital Plus Premier League.
