18 New TV Shows We Can’t Wait to Watch in 2020

2) Avenue 5 (HBO) - January 19 Imagine Titanic, but set in space. And not based on a true story. And funny. Basically, imagine a giant space cruise, with characters played by Hugh Laurie (House), Josh Gad (Frozen), and Zach Woods (Silicon Valley), all in a comedy from the creator of Veep, and you've got Avenue 5. Sounds good to us. See the original post on Youtube See the original post on Youtube See the original post on Youtube See the original post on Youtube See the original post on Youtube HBO@Youtube

3) Nora From Queens (Comedy Central) - January 22 Since 2018's Crazy Rich Asians and Ocean's 8, Awkwafina has been one of Hollywood's funniest and most interesting rising stars; her next project is a semi-autobiographical series called Nora From Queens on Comedy Central. Coming after her acclaimed role in 2019's The Farewell, Awkwafina will return to her comedy roots for Nora from Queens, and the show looks funny and worthy of our attention. 4) Locke and Key (Netflix) - Feb 7 An adaptation of Locke and Key, based on the series of graphic novels by Joe Hill (Stephen King's son), has been in the works for quite a while, having landed at Fox and Hulu before eventually sticking with Netflix. This series centers on three siblings who find themselves in a supernatural situation after the murder of their father; it gets dark. Feels like a bit of a Series of Unfortunate Events and Stranger Things hybrid, with a little bit of IT thrown in for good measure. Netflix

5) High Fidelity (Hulu) - February 14 Remember the original High Fidelity? With John Cusack? And that legendary Jack Black dance ? It's back, this time in an updated version set in modern-day Brooklyn, and starring Zoe Kravitz (Big Little Lies and future Catwoman in The Batman). It's still based on Nick Hornby's book of the same name, and considering it's High Fidelity, you can probably bet on a bangin' soundtrack too. If this were a movie, it may just have made it onto our romantic comedy list for 2020, too. 6) Dispatches From Elsewhere (AMC) - March 1 If you're like me, you've probably been wondering one distinct question over the last couple years: where the hell is Jason Segel? The Forgetting Sarah Marshall star has taken a step back from movies and TV the last couple years to work on other projects (he wrote a series of YA novels), but now he's back with Dispatches From Elsewhere, a show that looks bound to be filled with plot twists, surprise, and edge-of-seat thrills. While Segel created the show and is the main star, he's joined by some familiar and exciting characters, too: Andre 3000 (!!), Sally Field, and Richard E. Grant are among the co-stars. Could this be Segel's Barry? 7) Devs (FX/Hulu) - March 2020 One of the best movies of the 2010s is 2015's Ex Machina, which told an incredible Sci-fi story that centered around a pre-Star Wars Oscar Isaac and Domhnall Gleeson, along with Alicia Vikander. That movie's director (who also did Annihilation with Natalie Portman and Isaac) is the creative force behind Devs, which should bring a similar sci-fi energy. It stars Sonoya Mizuno (who also starred in Ex Machina, as well as Netflix's Maniac and Crazy Rich Asians) and Nick Offerman. The show was originally going to air on FX, but now will debut on Hulu as part of the two network's deal together. 8) The Last Dance (ESPN/ABC) - June 2020 This 10-part documentary series will air on ABC and ESPN in June, and will feature never-before-seen footage and interviews surrounding the legendary Michael Jordan-led Chicago Bulls dynasty. A camera crew followed the team around for the duration of the 1997-98 season, and that footage will combine with brand new interviews to create a compelling story today. 9) American Crime Story: Impeachment (FX) - November 2020 Following in the footsteps of The People vs. O.J. Simpson and The Assassination of Gianni Versace, Impeachment will be the third volume of Ryan Murphy's series that focuses on a not-so-current event worth hashing out. This third one will center on Bill Clinton's impeachment; Booksmart and Lady Bird star Beanie Feldstein will play Monica Lewinsky, and Clive Owen will play Clinton. Getty Images - Getty Images

10) Hunters (Amazon Prime) - TBD 2020 One of the most exciting new shows of 2020 is Amazon Prime's Hunters, a based-on-true-events story of an NYC-based team that hunted down Nazis that eluded post-WWII justice. Logan Lerman (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) leads the cast here, and is joined by Al Pacino in a major role. Jordan Peele is an executive producer, so you can feel damn good about this one. 11) Space Force (Netflix) - TBD 2020 A second space-based comedy in 2020? A second space-based comedy in 2020. This one is led by Steve Carell (in his second return-to-tv role following last year's The Morning Show) along with Ben Schwartz and John Malkovich. The show will center around the formation of the 'Space Force,' the to-come sixth branch of government. It will be created by The Office's Greg Daniels, and also star Booksmart breakout Diana Silvers. 12) Ratched (Netflix) - TBD 2020 We don't know a ton about this Bates Motel-esque origin series for One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest villain Nurse Ratched, but we do know a few things: it's from Ryan Murphy (!), it stars Sarah Paulson (!!) and it's coming this year (!!!). Getty/United Artists

13) Invincible (Amazon Prime) - TBD 2020 Based on a comic by Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead), this series focuses on a son (Steven Yuen) who begins to develop traits shared by his father (JK Simmons), who just happens to be the most powerful superhero in the world. Originally, this was going to be a movie produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, but it instead became a series; Rogen is still a part of the absolutely stacked cast, though, which, in addition to Yeun and Simmons also includes (deep breath): Sandra Oh, Mark Hamill, Zazie Beetz, Walton Goggins, and Jason Mantzoukas, among others. 14) Mythic Quest (Apple TV+) - 2020 TBD We don't know a ton about this show either, but we know the most important part: it's created by and starring Always Sunny In Philadelphia creator and star Rob McElhenney, and is a comedy set in a video game world. It's due this year at some point, and that combination sounds good to us. Apple

15) The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (Disney+) - Fall 2020 Picking up right where Avengers: Endgame left off, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will follow Men's Health cover stars Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie as their titular characters navigate the present of the MCU. The series is already filming, and will see villain Baron Zemo (Daniel Brhl) and Agent Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) return; it's the Captain America (sans Chris Evans) sequel that we all know we wanted and needed. Marvel Studios

16) The Plot to Destroy America (HBO) - 2020 TBD Based on the 2004 Philip Roth novel of the same name, this miniseries from David Simon (The Wire, The Deuce) focuses on an alternate U.S. history where Charles Lindbergh is elected president in 1940, and the country slowly marches closer and closer towards fascism. This cast is led by Winona Ryder, John Turturro, and Zoe Kazan. HBO

17) Lovecraft Country (HBO) - TBD 2020 Based on a book of the same name , some names you may have heard before are behind this project: Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams. Lovecraft Country centers on the intersection of H.P. Lovecraft-esque horror, the racism of Jim Crow-era racism, and all sorts of monsters in between. We know what Mr. Peele can do with those first two thingsGet Out is perfectand now it sounds like we're throwing some Witcher -esque monsters into the mix. Sounds like another winner. HBO

18) WandaVision (Disney+) - TBD 2020 Originally planned as a 2021 release, Disney made a lot of MCU fans happy when they revealed at the turn of the new year that WandaVision was ahead of schedule, and would instead drop in 2020. Focusing on Scarlett Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany), this series has been described as "half-sitcom," features the legendary Kathryn Hahn as a "nosy neighbor," and in general sounds pretty out there for a Marvel project. Honestly, I might be more curious about what's going on here than anything else on the list. Disney
