In one of the infinite universes, there exists at least one in which Rick and Morty was tragically cancelled after season 1. In another, it never existed at all. And in still another, creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland were cloned hundreds of times over, enslaved, and put in front of typewriters to endlessly churn out episodes, premiering every week without delay, until the end of human history. What a glorious universe.

In this onewhich may or may not be C-137Rick and Morty takes time to write and animate. The series premiered back in 2013 with each season releasing in roughly 2-year increments. It also took time for creators Harmon and Roiland to get funding from the shows network, Adult Swim, which inexplicably delayed renewal after season 3. (Any amount of time on a randomly selected college campus would convince producers to pull the trigger; the series is a sensation.)

But Adult Swim made up for any delay when it was announced back in 2018 that not only had Rick and Morty been picked up for Season 4, it had also been renewed for 70 more episodes . 70. More. Episodes.

Last November, we were treated to five of those episodes, or half of Season 4. That means weve got at least 65 more Rick and Morty episodes on the way. Eventually.

When will the rest of Rick and Morty season 4 come out?

In a Tweet, the Rick and Morty account announced that it will return in 2020. But thats just about all the detail we got. In an interview with Collider , Spencer Grammer, who voices Summer, did say that we can expect the remaining five episodes sooner than later. Sooner than later? Sooner, like mid 2020? Sooner, like late 2020? Get your shit together, Summer. Get it all together.

Is there a Rick and Morty Season 5?

There has to be, right? In an interview with Entertainment Weekly , Harmon assured that the gap between seasons 3 and 4 will be the longest and last time that its ever so long that its ridiculous. Now that the team has been given 70 episodes, its safe to assume the series will be around for a while, at least 6 more seasonsand hopefully adequately funded.

As for exactly how many more seasons, Roiland had some thoughts

Its way too early to say. On any given day youll feel like this thing can go for 20, 30 seasons. We have characters that dont really age, its very Simpsons-esque. Theres so much we can do to keep riding this train.
