Adam Driver's Kylo Ren/Ben Solo was one of, if not the most interesting characters in the entire 2015-2019 Star Wars saga. And while we know that Benson of Han Solo and Princess Leiawas at one point training to become a Jedi beneath Luke Skywalker, we never got a true glimpse into the process that led to him truly breaking bad. That's why a new four-part series from Marvel Comics, titled Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren is so intriguing: only two issues have been released, and it's already begun to fill in major gaps in what we know about the history of both Ben Solo and Luke Skywalker.

Written by Charles Soule and Will Sliney, the series also makes it clear that the Knights of Ren met Ben years before he finally turned against Luke (as we saw in a flashback during The Last Jedi). The series' second issue finds the seven Knights of Ren (who are actually led by a person named 'Ren') taking on Luke in a battle that ends in a stale mateand inviting young Ben to join them at the end.

At one point, the series follows Luke and Ben as they explore a Jedi outpost on a planet called Elphrona. They're also joined by Lon Sen Tekka, who was a character played by Max Von Sydow in the very first scene in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Here, we finally learn his role: he knew Luke, and Ben as a young Padawan.

On Elphrona, we also learn that the Knights of Ren are already their own renegade, punk-ish gang. Fans previously believed that they were Ben's fellow Jedis-in-training, but this proves that to not be the case. Perhaps this is why the Knights of Ren, in their brief Rise of Skywalker and The Force Awakens experiences aren't using lightsabersthey aren't all properly trained in the force.
