Family of slain Kwabenya policeman want a fund for his children

The brother of the deceased, said Mawuli Ashilevi was the breadwinner of the family hence the government must support them.

Speaking to Accra-based Citi FM, the brother of the deceased, said Mawuli Ashilevi was the breadwinner of the family and the government must support them.

“My brother is a government worker or a nation saver, so we know that because he is doing the job to save mother Ghana they government will treat his family better. So if they can put some amount aside to help the children in the future to further their education, it will be a very good thing to do. So we are hoping to get something from government, they promised so we are looking up to them.”

The Inspector left behind a family of seven with the youngest being 3 years.

The brother added that they are planning to give their relative a befitting burial.

A gang of armed robbers stormed the Kwabenya District Police Headquarters on Sunday dawn to free suspected armed robbers who were in custody.

The assailants shot and killed the policeman on duty, before freeing seven other suspected criminals who were being held in the cells.

The jailbreak has sparked concern among many Ghanaians, who believe the country is not safe with the assailants yet to be captured by the Police.

However, Deputy Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, has indicated that Ghana’s security is still intact despite the recent attacks on some police officers in the country.
