Artiste manager mounts defence for Shatta Wale

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Thursday, Mr Ennin said organisers may have qualms with the artiste following his criticisms against the scheme but that does not warrant a sanction.

Chief Executive Officer of Media Excel, Ernest Kwesi Ennin, has stated that neither organisers nor board of the annual Ghana Music Awards can ban Shatta Wale from this year’s event.

“Ghana Music Awards is not any family’s property. It does not belong to any family in Ghana. If you try to run your organisation to that level, then it moves from a service to a personal vendetta,” he noted.

“Do you know how many musicians have spoken against Ghana Music Awards? Then all of them should be banned. It is part of the game and nobody should take it personal to the extent of banning someone,” Mr Ennin added.

The debate on whether or not to nominate dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale at this year’s Ghana Music Awards keeps raging on. Although the artiste has submitted his nomination forms, the decision to nominate him or not is yet to be taken by the board. The Kakai hit maker, has on a number of occasions criticised the scheme as he believed it lacked credibility.

Prior to last year’s edition, he warned organisers, Charterhouse Productions Limited, not to nominate him and that if they did, he would sue them. This was as a result of a pending court case between him and Charterhouse over series of videos he posted on social media that the latter felt was defamatory to their Chief Executive Officer and the company as a whole.
