51-year-old man arrested with 100 pallets of cocaine at Kotoka Airport

The Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) has arrested a man allegedly in possession of cocaine at the Kotoka International Airport.

The suspect, identified as Oppong Kwaku Owusu, was arrested on Tuesday, 18 February, 2020 and is now facing prosecution.

The 51-year-old is said to have expelled 100 pellets of some powdery substance suspected to be cocaine, while an additional three parcels of the substance were also found on him.

In a statement, the narcotics control agency said the substances were concealed in his carryon luggage.

NACOB said Owusu was suspected of having ingested some foreign substance while at the departure hall of the airport.

Sections of the statement, signed by Francis Opoku Amoah, the Head, Communications Media Relations & Protocol Unit, reads: “His carry-on luggage was searched in his presence and three parcels of powdery substances suspected to be cocaine, a narcotic drug were found concealed in it”.

“Owusu was put under observation and as of 1200 hours of February 19, 2020, he had expelled 100 pellets of the powdery substance suspected to be cocaine”.

“In his investigative cautioned statement, the suspect stated that, he was contracted by one Alhaji, a Ghanaian resident in Amsterdam to acquire and transport some drugs for a fee of €1500.00.”

Meanwhile, the suspect denied knowledge and ownership of the substance in the bag, but claimed ownership of the clothing in it.
