Better conditions Striking doctors hopeful to end negotiations in two weeks

Negotiations for conditions of service for public-sector doctors and other health professionals resumed today at the Ministry of Finance

The Ghana Medical association has expressed optimism about the outcome of their renewed negotiations with government.

Negotiations for conditions of service for public-sector doctors and other health professionals resumed today at the Ministry of Finance.

This follows pleas from government, chiefs and the public for the doctors to go back to work after a three-week strike action

Speaking on citi fm's Eyewitness news, Deputy General Secretary of the GMA, Dr. Justice Yankson said he is hopeful the issue of their codified conditions of service will be resolved in two weeks.

“Our hope as an association is that this matter should be dealt with as soon as possible. We have always indicated to the whole world that this thing cannot drag into next year. We have always made it clear to the employer that this ought to be done quickly so that whatever ought to be done should be factored into the 2016 budget. We don't envisage two or three years; we are looking at two weeks maximum.”

Doctors as at July 29, 2015 laid down their tools to demand better codified conditions of service. However, the doctors have resumed operations pending conclusions on negotiations about their conditions of service.
