Mr. Mensah bemoaned the lack of a level playing field among Ghanaian telcos, and how if not checked, it will lead to a virtual monopoly of the market.

“It’s dangerous for the regulator to sell a spectrum to the highest bidder as with the telecommunication industry, access to spectrum is the bedrock of the industry", he said.

"It has trickling effect on other sectors including health and education which also impacts on the economy. It is reason why special policies must be enacted to offer a level playing field for players".

Speaking at a media soiree with pressmen in Accra, the External Affairs Director also lamented on some the challenges telcos are facing in Ghana.

“If in the UK, a telco makes 32 pounds (GHc203.21) on one user and in Ghana a telco using the same technology and infrastructure makes GHc18.00, it shows the disadvantage the Ghanaian telco faces,” he clarified

Touching on Vodafone's resolve to join the 4g spectrum, Mr. Mensah disclosed that the company has made a bid at the second opening of bids and are awaiting the regulators’ approval.

However, despite some of these challenges, Mr. Mensah chronicled some of the inroads Vodafone Ghana has achieved in various sectors of the Ghanaian economy.

He trumpeted Vodafone's contribution in healthcare, education and in the protection of the environment.

Citing some of their flagship programmes like 'Healthline', 'Instant Schools' and the numerous humanitarian works by the Vodafone Foundation; he emphasised on the company's commitment to Ghanaians.
