Nalerigu is the capital of North East region
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has named Nalerigu in the East Mamprusi Municipality as the capital of the new North East Region.

He made this known at the presentation of the Constitutional Instrument (C.I.) to give them legal backing to the new region.
He called for peace and unity among the people to enable development to thrive in the area.
The people in the North East region voted overwhelmingly to endorse the creation of the new region out of the current Northern Region.
Out of the total of 252,575 registered voters in the area, 205,121 voted YES representing 99.8 per cent in support while 447 representing 0.2 per cent voted No.
However, four other regions, namely Western North, Ahafo, Bono East and Oti will also get their C.I.'s in the course of the week.
The President is required by Article 5(8) of the 1992 Constitution to issue a CI giving effect or enabling effect to the results of the referendum for the creation of new regions.
